Photo of Katie WilletKatie Willet is an Emergency Medicine Physician and Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has a background in CBRNE training and education and collaborates with military-civilian operations to enhance preparedness and response. She is currently serving as the Omaha Site Medical Director for the NDMS pilot project for military-civilian collaboration in the event of large-scale combat operations (LSCO), working with the National Institute for Defense Health Cooperation and other national and regional Department of War and government partners. This engagement is working towards national preparedness for an LSCO scenario with 1,000 patients per day for 100 days returning to the US, and how to work with both military and civilian health systems to support and provide care through such an event. This process has helped clarify priorities among different agencies and military partners, fostering collaboration and improved support.

Dr. Willet is a Medical Director for the National Quarantine Unit located at UNMC and works extensively in biopreparedness, amongst other areas of specialty. This involves education and training, as well as recent activation for COVID-19 and Hantavirus. She is collaborating with numerous agencies as part of the current Hantavirus Quarantine, while monitoring passengers from the MV Hondius, building on past partnerships and engagement to actively manage the ongoing crisis. She looks forward to continued collaboration with partners to help strengthen Civil-Military Cooperation, as is essential for high-threat and disaster response.
