Improving global prehospital and emergency medicine, public health, and disaster health care and preparedness

April Llaneta, MD, MOH, FPCEM

Dr. April B. Llaneta is an Associate Professor and the current Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. She finished her Master’s in Occupational Health at the College of Public Health from the same university. Dr. Llaneta currently heads the Philippine General Hospital Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health Committee and is the lead for the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) medical response team.

She is the current Vice-President and Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Philippine College of Emergency Medicine, the national society of emergency medicine specialists in the country. Dr. Llaneta is involved in volunteer work as Chair of the Health Education Committee of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, the volunteer arm of the University of the Philippines. She helped develop teaching modules and conducts courses on first aid, Basic Life Support, community disaster preparedness, and wilderness first aid for low-resource communities in different parts of the country.

As President of the newly established Outdoor Medicine Association of the Philippines, Dr. Llaneta promotes emergency care principles among outdoor sports enthusiasts, community emergency first responders, and other emergency care providers.
