The Congress on Disaster and Emergency Medicine is an engaging and vibrant gathering that attracts a large international audience of health professionals, researchers, and policymakers drawn from clinics, medical centers, health authorities, non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, and academia. Congress delegates share a mission to improve outcomes from sudden-onset disasters, mass casualty incidents, and public health emergencies. The Tokyo Congress is expected to attract between 800-1,000 delegates from more than 50 countries.
Many congress delegates are physicians who work in hospitals, emergency departments, and emergency medical services (EMS) in addition to their disaster medicine capacity. Most also conduct research and train the next generation of disaster medicine specialists.
As the congress is a multidisciplinary event, a wide variety of other professions are represented including nurses, first responders, emergency managers, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, psychologists, sociologists, and engineers. Additionally, students at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels participate in the congress.
